At a meettUK of the College Governors held this molding Mr M. Fearnley, Head Master of the Wanganui High School, was appointed second aud resident master in tho place^ of Mr Mackay, and Mr J. Wilson Martin, at present second master of the lovercargill High School, waa aelfcct&d to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr Barm'coat. Mr Fearnley is a uative of Tasmania, where in 1808 he obtained the Tasmanian scholarship 0! £200 a year, tenable ror four years. He then returned to Australia, where he held several high positions in various educaliou establishments, In 1877 he took his M.A. degree, and two years later wbs appointed Head Master of the Wanganui High Schooi. Mr Martin was an undergia'luate at Oxford. He, too, has held Borne high appointments in Australia, and has lalely taken first-class honors in the Cambridge local examinations. We have been shown a private letter received this morning from Wellington stating that protection is again to be taken off hares. Tut: chief features in the Regulation of Elections Bill of which the Premier has given notice are as follows :— {l) The extension of the polling hours in an election for the Hou9e of Representatives to G p.m , as in Municipal elections, instead of the poll closing at 4 p m., as at present in Parliamentary elections, and (2) a proviso that in a general election the poll shall be taken in all the districts on the sam 9 day. The hon member for Grey and Bell gave notice yesterday that he would move that there should bo laid upon the table of the House the unconnected proofs of the speech made by Sir George Groy on the 14th inst.. during the debate on the address in reply; or if the proof had been destroyed a copy of the Hansard reporters' notas.
