Sydney, Monday. No fresh cases of smallpox have been reported io the city sinae tae 15th insfc., and the health officers continue to use every precau:ion to prevent the disease spreading. News has been received from tl c Inlands that the chief murderer of Lieut. Bo#er has been caught and cxc ;uted at the scene of the Sandfly massacre. Albany, Tuesday. The P. and 0. Company's steamship Hydaifes ani«d from Galle this morning. ADEfcAIoE, Tuesday. The Hon. M. Morgan ha< resigned his position as Premier and Chief Secretary, owing to the pressure of private engagements. The Hon. George Hawker, Minister of Works, has been summoned by His Excellency the Governor to accept the vacant poitfolio, ond has undertaken the reconstruction of the Ministry. Melbourne, Tuesday. In the legislative Council to-day, after further dtbate, the Land Tax Bill was finally rejected. Sailed— Te Anau for the Bluff this afternoon. Wednesday. It is announced that the detached squadron will remain hero for aoother threo weeks, but the future movements of the veeßels are uncertain. A caucus of Opposition members was held yesterday to consider the proposed vote of want of confidence No decision was come to and the meeting was adjourned until today. The vote of want of confidence was not brought on ia the Assembly last nigbt as was expected. A desultory discussion took place in regard to the proposed motion, but nothing definite was decided. It is considered probable, however, that it will be introduced to-day by Sir Bryan O'Loghlin or Mr Grant.
