DROWNING OF MR PETER GORRIE.
It ia with great regret that we have to announce the death of Mr Peter Gonie, who was accidentally drowned while on his way from Marlborough to Nelson on Saturday night. The deceased, who was an industrious hard working member of the firm of Gorrie and Sons, leaves a wliow and four young children to mourn his loss. The following particulars have been telegraphed to us by our correspondent s — ' Peter Gorrie started from Blenheim on Saturday afternoon-, having previously telegraphed to his wifo that he would be in Nelson to dinner on Sunday. He was accompanied as far as Kaituna by one of Mr Hutcheson's eonß, aud finding it impossible to cross the river at that point, they turned back to Gouland's Ferry, where Gorrie crossed and reached Havelock that night. He pushed on after a slight delay with the intention of proceeding as far as Cooper's, but on the following morning his horse was found riderless. Search parties were at onco organised, with the result that the body was found in a small creek at the .foot of Totara Hill, half way between Canvas Town and Cooper's accommodation house. It was conveyed to Wilson's accommodation house, where it now lies awaitiug the inquest,"
