Mr Levestam will address the electors in the Provincial Hall on Monday night. As the first performance of the Bimonsen Opera CompaDy will be given on Tuesday evening next, the subscription list for season tickets, by which a saving of twenty per Cent is effected, will close at Mr Stanton's on Monday evening at cix o'clock, after wnioh date the ordinary rates will have to be paid. It is quite competent for two or three to dub together, and purchase half a dozen tickets, which are transferable, and may be used on any night or nights. Mr. Shallcrass, the Relieving Officer, has received a letter from Mr G. S. Cooper, the Under Secretary, stating that Mr Greenfield had, at the request of the Government* made an investigation into the management of the Infirmary, and that the result had been to convince the Government that no grounds exist for any charge against the matron, or for complaints as to the management of the institution. A correspondent writes on behalf, as he assures us, of a large number of residents in the Waimea, advocating the running of a late train from Foxhill — or rather from Bell Grove, for that will shortly be the terminus — to Nelson and back at least once a week. This is by no means the first suggestion of the kind that we have received, and it is to be hoped that the authorities will see their way to giving the experiment a fair trial, not merely for a few weeks, but for at least six months. At first it will, of course, prove a loss, but as the people become accustomed to it they will learn to value the convenience, and there is every reason to believe will largely avail themselves of it. "Trubner's American, European, and Oriental Literary Record " says: — " We have received from New Zealand c Quotations ' (• Gather up the Fragments '), first series, foolscap Bvo, 6ewcd, pp 76, Nelson, New Zealand, 1880. We seem to recognise in the compiler an old friend and Urquhartite." We (Southland Times') have been shown by Mr Willocks an interesting relic from the Tararua, in the shape of a Bible that came ashore saturated with water and almost parted from its cover. It is a Pearl Reference Bible, with maps, published by W. Collins, Sons, and Co. in 1871, and has no name or inscription of any kind. The cover was limp and of brown leather. We have been thus minute in case of the book being claimable by any relative of the owner. We may add that this Bible was the one used at the Coroner's inquest on tbQ bodies, at Qtara,
