SOME TALL SCORES.

The Lyttelton Times has compiled a list of batsmen who have succeeded in scoring a hundred runs and over in a single innings played during the past season. Sixteen of tlie scores on the list have been made in Victoria, two in New South Wales, twelve in South Australia, ten in Tasmania, and nine in New Zealand. The list is headed by G. J. Dunne, with 253 runs to his credit. Close upon his heels comes G. Bailey, of the first Australian Eleven, now playing for his club in Tasmania, with 227 not out ; then J. Slight and W. Henty, with 205, not out, and 202, not out, respectively. The four just mentioned* are the only ones who have been fortunate enough to make over 200 runs j the others, as will be seen, range from 175 down to the v hundred." F. Bennett, of the Derwent Club, Tas- , mania, has no 19,88 than four scores over the century to his name ;' three of these have been made against the Break o' Day Club', and the other in a school match. W. L. Murdoch is mentioned twice, and the same honor is paid to G. Bailey and to H. H. Secretan. Re- : garding these scores we may mention 1 that in England last season 434 scores lof over the hundred were made. Mr Retny-Tailyoiir was at the top of the tree with 331 not out, and Mr W. G. Grace's name was down on the list half a dozen times. The scores obtained in first-class matches are distinguished by small capitals. ■ The asterisk signifies "not out."
