Minutes of previous meeting read and con-firo-ed, Coal Leases, The plans of thd 6Ur¥ey of land to be leased to the Weatport Golliety Company w^re tidasldeßed And approved. Gold Mining Lease. Application of Arkbll and party for a gold mining lease, 15a Or 26p t Gridiroo Creek, Mount Arthur, for which Mr Warden Guiuness had granted a certificate of cccv )Ji:ion to be exchanged to a lease. The issue of the lease was opposed by Byrne and party who cliUmed to have held a prior right to part of tbe ground as prospectors under their registered rights. Mr Pitt appeared for the objectors apd Mr Fell for Arkell and party. Besolved, That tr.ere are no sufficient grounds to justify the Board in refusing the lease and that the Warden's decision b. therefore confirmed aDd the leaso issued to Arkell oud party, Prospecting Licenses. Application from J. W. Tatton for a re newal of License 91 considered. Resolved That the license be not renewed, bufc thafc a new license be issued for six monthß, subject to prior rights if any, The under-niehtiotied licenses were also granted for six months, subject to pritr rights : If. W. Irvine, 500 acres, near Roding River, Dun Mountain district ; .7 W. Tat tou, for Champion Copper Lode Company, 260 acres, Roding Elver, Dorth < f Company's License No. 120 ; If. J. Manton, 80 acres, Aniseed Valley. The under-mentioned licenses were aleo renewed for cix months, subject to prior rights if any ;— J. W. Tatton, ,400 acres, portion of License C?, Auißeed Valley ; T. li Mackett, 250 acres, License No. 50, Aniseed Valley ; Aniseed Prospecting Company, 320 acres, Anisaed Valley, License No. 7fl ; Johnston Stratum Company, 195 acres, Aniseed Valley, License No. 79 ; Charles Corr, 380 acres, Mokihinui, License No. 94, subject to approval of Minister for Lands. Application to Purchase Land. Thomas Lee's application to purchase four sections, Reefton, considered. — Resolved: That tbe conditions of Section 11, Appendix E, bave not been complied with as to the term of occupation under Business License, and tbat the value of buildlug would only entitle the occupier to purchase one section, Sale refused. Letters ftom Mr Algie re land applied for on lease, and through which land a railway reserve had been made, taking in his house and clearing, also objecting to assessment, and refusing to accept lease at the assessed price, viz., 30a per acre, were considered.-— Resolved, That the Board is not. responsible for the hardship Mr Algie has suffered by taking the reserve through the land applied for, that having been done by the Public Works Department^ but as Mr Algie. refuses to accept tbe lease on tbe reduced assessment the lease must be cancelled as provided by tbe Land Act. ' i Bayfeild's application for Prospecting License. A letter from the Chairman of the Inangahua County Council, dated 10th May, objecting to the granting of tbe application was considered. — Resolved, That the consideration of the applications be further postponed, as the Board is not in possession of information to decide upon them, and that the County Chairman be informed. . that th* Board objects to the tone of the latter part of bis letter, and that while they will 'at all times' be willing to carefully consider any representations the Council may make with reference to tbe occupation and disposal of lands, if couched in proper language, tbey will not in future consider any letters containing threats. J, Overend's Application for Lease near Crushington. i Letter from County Chairman asking the Board to refuse the Lease together with a letter from Mr Overend's agent, Mr Bayfield, asking the Roard to postpone tbe decision antil letter received from Mr Overend. Resolved, That the decision be postponed. ; Lands for Settlement. Mr Joseph Shephard, M.HK, attended ahd pointed out to the Board the great advantage to be derived and tbe large block of land that would be opened up for settlement by the construction of a roal from the main Buller road up the Matakitaki Valley. Resolved, That in the opinion of the Board a large block of valuable land wouid be opened up by the construction of the road referred to, and that the Government be asked to place a sum on the estimates for thatputvpoße, and the Government be referred to the Chief Commissioner's letter No. 827 of the Ist July, 1878. recommending this work for opening up lands for settlement.' • - Occupation Licenses. Resolved, That the license applied for by Mr Hughes over 2000 acres between Orwell Creek and the Ahaura River be refused. Gold Miniog Lease approved: G. Zanetti and others.Seotion 41 Block TX, Lyell.
