A barque, supposed to be«the Electra, was Been beating through the Straits yesterday afternoon against a strong S.E wind. The Taiaroa arrived at Wellington at 5 a.m. to-day, and left there for Lyttelton this afternoon. ' She returns here on Tuesday morning, sailing at, 2 p.m. the same day for Picton, Wellington* Lyttelton, and Dunedin. The local agent of the U ion Company is advertising for tenders, which are to be sent in by 5 p.m. to morrow, for supplying the Company's steamers with poultry, vegetables, etc., for 19.months .commencing Ist June.. Particulars will be found in the advertisement, which appears elsewhere. The Penguin left Port Chalmers at 3 30 p.m. on Monday, and arrived at Akaroa at 6 a.m. on Tuesday; sailed at 8 a.m. and reached Lyttejton at noon ; left at 6 30 p.m. same day, and arrived at Wellington at 9 30 a.m. on Wednesday; sailed at 1.15 p.m. yesterday, and reached Picton at 615 p.m.; left at 4 a.m. to-day, and arrived here at noon. She remains here until noon to-morrow, when she sails for-Wellington, Tnrannki, and Matmkau, carrying the outward San Francisco mail.
