Wellington, Wednesday. Dr Alexander Neiil, of Dunedin, has been selected for the appointment of Resident Medical Superintendent of the Wellington Lunatic Asylum. . The Divorce Court was occupied all day in hearing the case of Hill v. Hill (Wellington), petition of the wife f or dissolution of marriage on the ground of adultery, cruelty, and desertion. It is not likely that the case will be concluded before to-morrow evening. Dunb»in, Tuesday. Captain Cameron in bis evidence to-day stated that the boats on board the Tararua wese insufficient to hold all the people. Wednesday. Peter Hodge Kirk, an expressman, com* mitted suicide by banging last night. On his body a letter was found stating the cause of the act to be separation from his wife and family. Last week his wife Bued him for •maintenance. The letter added " I suppose the jury will bring in insanity, but I am not insane and never was." Capt. Anderson takes temporary command of the Albion, exchanging with Capt. McGee of the Taiaroa. Mr Webster, chief officer of the Te Anau, is appointed to the command of the Hero, Capt. Logan going home. Auckland, Wednesday. It has transpired that James Quinlan shipped as fireman on board the Tararua at Port Chalmers. He leaves a widowed mother in Auckland destitute, having supported her for years.
