The average for the passage was 11*7 knots, and the total distance steamed was 13,207 miles. If report speaks truly (says the N.Z. Times) we shall Boon see a fine fleet of steam colliers trading from Westport and Greymouth to various ports in the colony, rlfc.has been stated on what appears to be good authority that Captain Williams' object in going Home is to' Obtain three or four ■ steamers which are suitable for this traffic, and that Beyeral capitalists from other partß , of the colony have joined him in the under- ■ taking. It is further reported that a gentleman who at the present time occupies a high , position in. the service of the Union Steamship Company is about to resign his post and to proceed Home for the purpose of bringing out the first of these vessels. The successful floating.pf such a proposal would have the effect of blocking out the Newcastle trade, and a. large sum of money which is annually sent out of the colony would flow into the hands of local capitalists.
