London, February 24. The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England is £17,375,000. The demand for best sides Australian hides 13 limited and prices are a farthing lower. Intelligence has been received from Candahar that circumstances have transpired there which lead to the belief that the evacuation of the place by the British garrison will shortly be commenced. No definite announcement of the intended withdrawal of the troops bas, however, been made public at Candahar or in this city. Capetown, February, 24, A telegram has been received to-day from Sir George Colley, announcing that he had reconnoitred thc enemy's position as a preparatory movement of advance against the Boers in force. News to hand from Natal, states that it has been ascertained that a number of colonists, who have up to the present time deemed loyal, have been secretly assisting the Transvaal Boers in their operations against tbe British.
