Passengers: Misses Friendly, Canning, Mrs Munro, Mrs Allison, Masters M'Hardy, Glasgow (2), Messrs Logan, Dyer, Hudson, Jeffrey, Jones, Syme, Middlemis, Johnson, Allison, and 5 steerage. SAILED. Fib.. lß, steamer Wanaka, 27G, M'Gillivray, for TaranakiandManukau. Passengers: Mesdanies liingstcn and child, Herruau, Watkins, Logan, Fraham, Herman, Mottram, Batchelor, Matheson. — sctooner Croydoii Lass, 51, Curran, for Greymouth. The Lady Barkly arrived last night from her usual trip to Golden Bay. Tho Wallace arrived at Hokitika last night from Okarito and proceeded to Greymouth this morning. The Kennedy ltavea Westport to-night for Karamea and Nelson. The Murray arrived at Hokilika from Westport this morning, and proceeds to Greymoutb to-morrow. The Charles Edward arrived from the West Coast this moruinp, and will leave on Monday next ou the return trip. The Argus airived this morning from Marahau with a cargo of timber for Mr John Scott. The Croydon Lass sailed at 1 p.m. to-day for Greymouth, iv ballast. The llawoa leaves Wellington at noon on Monday, will arrive here on Tuesday morning, and sail for Picton, Wellington, and South by the same tide at noon. The Wanaka left Wellington at 1 pm. yesterday, and arrived at Picton at 7 p.m. ; left again at 10 pm., and anived heie at 8 o'clock this morning. Fine weather was experienced throughout the passage. She sailed for Taranaki and Manukau shortly attet noon. The Union S.S. Co.'s expenditure it> Auckland during, ths month of January (says the Here id) was :— Coals, JEIBOO ; wages, £500 ;>:rfresh meat and vegetables, £500 ; labor, £150 ; miscellaneous, £750 ; total, £3700. An idea seems to exist that the men employed in the company's steamers are paid in Dunedin. This is erroneous. They receive their wagps in the port the vessel happens to be iv when the wages are due. . ■"
