The Arawata arrived at the Bluff from Melbourne yesterday morning, and sailed for Dunediu in the evening. Tbe Wanaka leaves Onehurga this afternoon, will arrive here to-morrow evening, and sail for Picton Wellington, and Lyttelton at 4 p.m. on Thursday. The Ringarooma made an excursion trip from Wellington to Picton arid back yesterday. The return ticket was 10a, and she had on hoard some 330 passengers. All •went well until she approached Pictcn when she ran on a sandbank, aud remained there until the Penguin came and towed her cff. The Penguin left Lyttelton nt 930 pm. on Saturday, and arrived at Wellington at 130 p.m. on Sunday; failed at 1230 p.m. yesterday, stopped 15 minutes to speak to tbe barque Sophia R. Luhro, and reached Picton at 430 p.m. after a run of 3J hours? ; left at 7-30 ptu., and arrived here at. 430 a.m. to-dny. She sailed for Picton, Welling* ton, and South this afternoon. The excursion trip to the French Pass by the Wallace yesterday was well patronised, there being about 90 on board. She left the Albion Wharf at 8 a.m., and with a fine S.W. wind behind her made good progress, arriving at Emslie's Bay at noon, after a plensant passage. The txcursionist3 Were landed in the steamer's boatß, and were soon scattered in all directions, some climbing the hills for the purpose of getting a view of the magnificent scenery of the Pass, while others went fishing, shooting, &c. At hulf-past three the whistle was blown to warn the passengers that it was time to be on board, and shortly before four o'clock the anchor wdb hove up, and steamer proceeded homewards, having in tow a boat, which was cast off when oppo site Waikawa Bay. A strong westerly wind was experienced immediately after getting «lear of the Islnndy and boou raised a nasty cross sea, which caused the Wallace to pitch about a little. The horrible effects of mat <fe mer were then felt by most of those on board, and shortly afterwards they were lying prostrate in all parts of the vessel in a helplesß condition. Off the Croixelles the Bea was running very high, and tbe decks were constantly deluged with water, those who were lying down in the fore part of tbe steamer being drenched to the *kin. This state of things lasted until Cable Bay was „- reached, when the sea became more tranquil, and the Wallace arrived alongside the Albion ■wharf at 9.30 p.m. It may be mentioned that every attention was paid to the excursionists at Emslie's Bay by Mr and Mrs Webber and Mr A. JEmslie. i
