A telegram received from Durban, in Natal to-day. states that a report had been received there from tho Transvaal, that the' Boers had inflicted a serious defeat on the British troops at Middlebufrg, The engagement is stated to have been most severe, and tbat the British were outnumbered aud lost 200 in killed and wounded and tbat fifty officers and men were taken prisoners. No official telegrams have yet been received here or in Natal confirming the above report.
