COLLEGE SPORTS.
The annual sports commenced at the College grounds at two p.m. yesterday, and are being continued this afternoon. The weather was all that could be desired, and the attendance of spectators was good, though not quite so numerous as usual The Champion Cup, atter a good contest throughout, was won by Wratt with a total of 78 points out of a possible 93, Peat being second with 66 points, and Bidwell third with 41, The following is the result of the various events :~ , Running Long Jump: For all under 14 years— Harkness and Brownlee tied at 18ft Ilin, but in jumping off Harkness cleared Uft 9in, and Brownlee 14ft 2in. Hop, Step, and Jump (Cup).— Wratt (40ft) 1 ; Peat (38ft «in) 2 ;- Evans (88ft ssin) 3. Wratt jumped admirably, the distance he : cleared being seldom surpassed. ! Flat Race, 150yds, all under 13 years.— Brownlee, 1 ; G. Mcßae, 2. Running High Jump (Cup).— G. Harknesi (4ft Ilin) 1 ; Bidwell (4ft loin) 2. Hop, Step; and Jump, all under 16 years. — P. McHardy (36ffc) I ; A. Wither (35ft Ilin) 2. The jumping was excellent and the contest close. Flat Race, 150yds (Cup).— Wratt, 1 j Bidwell, 2 ; Peat, 3. Peat led until 10 yards from the winning post, when he unfortunately Blipped. The race was won by half a yard. Flat Race, 100yds, all under 15 —A. ; Wither, 1 ; N.-Trotter, 2. Wither's running was excellent. - ; Running High Jump ; a handicap for all comers.— C. Harley (scratch) (sft 6in) 1 } G. Harknesa («sin) (sft Sin) 2. Harley's jumping was much admired, and although heavily handicapped he won easily. Flat Race, lOOyds(Cup).— Peat, 1 Wratt, 2 ; Hornby, 3. Closely contested throughout. Flat Race, 440yds, all under 17.— R. Saywell, 1 ; P. McHardy, 2. Saywell ran in capital style, showing remarkably good running powers for a lad of 15. j High Jump with pole (Cup).— G. Seymour (Bft 3£in) 1 ; Bidwell (Bft) 2. Flat Race, 1 00 yards; a handicap for allcomers. — First heat : Barnicoat (scratch) 1 ; Cook (syds) 2 ; Bartlett (3yds) 3. Barnicoat ran in splendid form, and, although starting from scratch, won easily by about 5 yards. Second heat : Saywell (s£yds) 1 ; Askey (2yds) 2. Saywell again ran remarkably well, winniog by 2yds. Final Heat : Barnicoat (scratch) 1 ; Saywell (s£yds) 2. Barnicoat won easily by 3yds, although Saywell for a young fellow ran splendidly. Running Long Jump (Cup).— Wratt. (18ft. 3in) 1 ; Peat (17ft 10in)"2 } Harkriesa.(l7ft j 9in) 3. . \ N- . | Hurdle Race, 120yds ; a handicap for all j comers. — First heat : — Barnicoat; (lyd) 1 ; McHardy (6yds) 2 ; - Second- heat;— Harley (scratch) 1 ; Wratt (-3yds) 2. Final heat s— j Harley (scratch) 1 } Barnicoat (lyd) 3. Harley took the hurdles in fine stylt, and won easily. Flat Race, 440yda (Cup).— Peat,__l , Hornby, 2 ; Wratt, 8. Peat started with the lead, which h« easily maintained t« the finish. ." ' ■ High Jump with Pols : a handicap for all comers.— G. Seymour (Bin)~(Bftrilm)- 1 ; ~ Bidwell (scratch) (Bft 2Jin) 1. . ; Hurdle Race, 120yds (Cup).— Wratt, 1 ; McHardy, 2 » Peat, ». McHardy. in this hurdle race, as' hr' that for all "comers, distinguished himself greatly for & lad of 15. Quadrupedal Race.— First heat :— Cook, Hunt, and Harkness, 1. Second heat t— G. Seymour, Saywell, and P. McHardy, J. Final heat :— G. Seymour, Saywell, and P. McHardyrl. Mnch amusement was afforded to the spectators by, this event, one- trio falling down when within a foot of the winning post, thus losing the race.
