The Queensland Ministry received a telegram this afternoon from an influential firm in London promising their cordial co-opera-tion for pushing forward the transcontinental railway project.. . The telegram.' further states that the present is considered a favorable time for that purpose. Melbourne, Tuesday. New Zealand feeding - oats 2s 6d per bushel. No milling qualities in the market. The Legislative Assembly negatived Dr. L. L. Smith's want of confidence in the Ministry by a small majority, the members being 44 against 39 for the motion. Sir Bryan O'Loughlen, Sir John O'Shannessy and M'Keah voted with the minority. Latest advices from Mauritius state that there are 1300 tons of shipping on the berth for Australia and that 58,000 tons have been shipped since the lsfc August. Sailed — Hotoniahana for Bluff. Wednesday. The sugar market haß an • improving tendency. The Age to-day, commenting on the want of confidence motion proposed by Dr Smith, says that Mr Berry was perilously near suffering a defeat.
