Welligton, Thursday.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency report under date London, December 7 : — Wool markets unchanged. Up to date 85,000 bales hare been sold. The principal decline has been in cross breds. There is a moderate competition on tbe French account. The trade in the manufacturing districts is unchanged. The wheat market is unchanged; Adelaide is wortb 51s; Victoria 525, and New Zealand 47s per 4S6lbs. The tallow market is quiet ; best mutton is worth £35 10s, and best beef £32 10a per ton. ' The leather market is flat ; best sides are worth lljd per lb.
Friday. It is understood that the Government, with the view of promoting Jocal
intend shortly to offer bonuses for the production of various articles in marketable quantities and at reasonable prices. At the Supreme Court this afternoon, the caae of Tuhi for the Opunake murder was called on. Mr Forwood, the counsel for the defence, intimated that the case was not likely to conclude by Saturday night, and, in order to preveut the jury being locked up all Sunday, he asked that the case might bo takeu on Monday morning. His Honor agreed to this, and Tuhi was removed, Mr Forwood mentioned that it was the intention of Tuhi to plead not guilty. David Collins, alias Wiston alias Murphy, pleaded guilty to a charge of horse stealing. Sentence was deferred. Cummins, for forgery, was found guilty and remanded for sentence,
At the Supreme Court, the following sentences were passed : — John Watson, for attempted suicide, was discharged in his own recognisance of £10 and one surety of £10 to keep the peace for twelve months ; Adam Leitch, for receiving stolen property, one month ; Ellison, alias Thompson, on two charges of larceny, to two years and one year, the sentences to be concurrent ; David Collins, for horse, r stealing, one year ; John Cumming, for forgery, three years.
Colonel Leckie has been appointed Licensing Commissioner vice Mr Kebbell, resigned.
Dunedin, Friday,
A deputation from the City Council waited on Mr Oliver asking for the removal of the Harbor Board offices in order that Cumber-land-street might be carried straight through, the building now being in the ceutre of the street. Mr Oliver replied that he was determined the building should remain where it is, and be used as a railway office until a permanent station was built. The City Council are disposed to pull down the building in the exercise of their powers.
At the inquest on the firelwhich destroyed Mr Proudfoot's tram sheds and cars the jury returned au open verdict.
Oamaru, Thursday.
The first day's racing of the Oamaru Jockey Club commenced to-day. The attendance was good, and the weather beautiful.—Maiden Plate: Sylvanus, 1; Levant, 2; Emerald, 3. Little John was scratched. — Oamaru Handicap: Luna, 1; Adamant, 2; Libeller, 3. Band wick, Sylvanus, and Virginia water started.

A man named Parker, 32 years old, was tumbling about the streets yesterday drunk, and fell on his head. He got up apparently none the worse, and was afterwards taken to the lock-up, and there about five o'clock he was found dead. An inquest will be held.
Andrew Duncan, an old resident in Christchurch, died of heait disease this morning. For some years be held the position of Mayor, and was also a member of the Provincial Executive, and subsequently was Immigration Agent for Canterbury.
The anniversary sports promise to be a great success. Numerous entries have been received for the haudicap races, including men from Tiniaru, Invercargill, Wellington, and Dunedin.
A match for £50 a side has been arranged between Hutton of Auckland, and Ilalston of Christchurch, distance 100, 120, and 150 yards.
Three Leicester rams arrived by the ship Raugitikei from London for Mr Threlkeld of Flaxion.
