Sydney, Wednesday. A shanty-keeper has been murdered at Albury by a swagman, who also attempted to murder the daughter of his victim, and fired the hut for the purpose of concealing his crime. Arrived— Rotomahana, from the Bluff. Sailed— Ringarooma for the Bluff. Thursday. ; The Orient Company's steamship Sorafca has arrived from Adelaide. In the Legislative Assembly last night the estimates were again dealt with. On the Eiuca'iou vote being proposed, Sir John O'Shannassy made a strong attack on the education system and opposed the passage of the vote. Mr Murray Smith also spoke on the question and favored the appointment of a Royal Commission to enquire into the best means for the redress of the grievances of the Catholics under the present system of public instruction.

It is announced that the services of Colonel Scratchley arc to be retained by the Victorian Government foa another year. The Queensland and Tasmanian Governments have agreed to send delegates to lhe Intercolonial Conference' when it meets again in Sydney in January.
