Wellington, Monday. The Magistrate dismissed the information against Walkley, a publican, for keeping his hotel open after hours. Timaru, Monday. Miss Phillips, a young l*dy employed with a shopkeeper at Temuka, was iiding on Saturday when her horse was attacked by dogs, and she was thrown aud badly injured about the head and body, and now lies in a precarious state. J. B. Glasgow, a hairdresser at Temuka, committed suicide yesterday by swallowing carbolic acid. The deceased was formerly an hotelkeeper on the Thames, and a successful mining speculator, but lost the whole of his money. There are 740 entries for the Agricultural Show to-morrow. CniusTCHUßcn, Monday. The week night services at some of tbe local churches will be suspended this week to avoid interfering with Mr Proctor's astronomical lectures, which promise to be a great success. Dunedin, Monday. A Chinaman at Butcher's Gully is reported to have found a nugget weighing 4lbs The Supreme Court bas been occupied with the CBse of Proudfoot v. Turnbull, claim for 4579 for commission for putting his name to a number of accommodation bills. Kate White, aged 10, fell down an embankment forty feet high at the rear of the First Church sustaining severe injuries. James Richard Saunders, a currier iv the employ of Messrs Coomba and Son, died very suddenly yesterday morning. He bad been ailing for some time past, aud about 7 o'clock left his bed and about 20 minutes after there was a rush of blood from his mouth and nostrilß. A ship is at the heads, supposed to be the Timaru, from London. Auckland, Monday. Sir G. Grey writes from Kawau that he has been too ill to attend to any business but hopes to visit tbe Thames shortly. Telegrams from Hamilton in the Walkato report that the natives have found rich stone at Te Aroha on the hill behind O'llallaron's Hotel, and in consequence there is a great rush and the ground is being pegged off for a considerable distance. The Government officers are now arranging for the remaining native signatures, and in a few days the block will be declared a goldfield. Mr Von Stunner, R.\f. at Hokianga, has broken his arm in two places by a fall. The G rinan and irrench meu-of-warsmen attended tbe Catholic Chapel yesterday, wbeu Archbishop Steins gave a discourse iv both languages. A new democratic paper is announced to support Sir G, Grey. An inquest was held this morning at tbe Empire Hotel on the body 'of Henry Weatherley, who committed suicide by .drowning in a creek at Taonui. The deceased tied bis hands with a handkerchief, and jumped into two feet of water. A verdict of suicide while in an unsound state of mind iwas returned. The deceased was sn old 'Crimean soldier of the Cold9tream Guards, and had a medal and clasp of Scbastapol, and a Turkish medal.
