CORRESPONDENCE.
6 To the Editor of the " EvEtfißQ Mail." ; Sfß—t wduid Suggest to the Corporation i. the 'propriety of reconsidering their determination to allow the erection of Bishop .. Suter^s.' wooden memorial tomb to Kaikes ; upon a public reserve. These reserves are 3 for the public and solely for public purposes ; they are not for any section of the people, no matter how numerous that section may i be, and as Bishop Suter has stated that the recent meetings were a great Protestant 3 demonstration, it is manifest that the erecj tion of this object upon a public reserve will 3 be giving to a particular section of the com t munity so much of the reserve as the article t will occupy » This the Corporation has no .right-to .do.' Bufr apart from" the Question of right, there is that of expediency. If they- - . grant the permission to one section they muit t grant it to othetsy and so in time we shall find our resizes- cut up into little memorial plots t sacred to the memory of Tom Paine, Voltaire, r Brigbarn Young, St. Lso, John Bunyan, &c, i according as different sections of the citiztns wish to honor those they regard as their illustrious dead There is another aspect of the matter, and that is in future years this ♦'memorial," erected, as it admittedly is, aa a purely sectarian memento, may be a cause ! of angry dispute, resulting possibly in public t disturbance.— l am, &c,
