At the inquent on the body of the man Pearse, who was said to have been -shot at by boys the jury returned a verdict; to the effect that there was rib evide'nee to show who had inflicted the wound. The three boys concerned Were brought up at the Police Court , to day and fetnaftdedj pending the result of the inquest. Dunedin, Saturday. The police are investigating what at present seems a strange affair. The driver and conductor of the 930 a.m. train from Ocean Beach reported that just before reaching Jones' hotel a shot was fired at the car. Their statement is so far backed up that the window in the car was found to be broken immediately afterwards. There were no passengers in the car, and the conductor, who appeara to be of a romantic turn of mind, thinks the shot wa3 fired by a jealous rivalin a love affair. By a fire which destroyed a stable and two horses at Leitb-street last night ihe New Zealand and National offices lose £115 between them. Wellington, Saturday. A fatal accident occurred at Wadestown yesterday. A lad named George Heigliton was riding into town when he was thrown from his horse, and his foot caught in the stirrup and ho was dragged for a considerable distance, receiving fearful injuries on the head. He was taken to the Hospital, where he expired. The amalgamation of the Wellington Coal Company with the Koran ui Coal Company is completed. Messrs Pharazyn and George are elected director* vice Messrs Anderson and Miles, resigned. Work will be resumed immediately. An information has been laid against Waltley, proprietor of the Cricketers' Arms Hotel, for a breach of th© Licensing Act by keeping his house open ufter hours. Auckland, Saturday. The champion sailing boat Toy, sold by Mr. Bailey to Mr. Bindon, remains in Auckland. A gentleman who inspectel the Taupo at Tauraugu says the woodwork is completely worm eaten. Inspector Emerson passed through Auckland on his way to Nelsou. Advices state that the French war ship Guicon will shortly visit New Zealand. Invbrcakgill, Saturday, A little girl, two years old, daughter of Mr. Templeton, a settler at Dipton tflat, disappeared from her mother's side, and when missed after a few minutes was found drowned in a creek near the house. .Yesterday morning, a resident in the suburbs, found an infant two or three weeks old lying outside his door wrapped in blankets with feeding bottle by its side. It, is believed that tha mother is a stranger to the place.
