MOTUEKA SUNDAY SCHOOLS.

To THE EDITOR OS 1 THE " EVENING MAIL." Sir —As your remarks in Saturday's Mail call;for an explanation, I beg to sfcute that after it had beou decided by the Cotnmittete to poftpone the children's gathering on account of the unfavorable Btate of the weather until the following Wednesday, a meeting was held in an ante-room, and I was instructed to telegraph to the country schools eive/.t Motueka, where it was unnecessary, as there were two gentlemen present who had token part in the public meeting going to Motueka next morning, and they engaged to make known the postponement to the schools there. One promised the Bishop of Nelson, and the other (a personal friend of the Rev R Bavin) promised that gentleman to do so, the Rev R Bavin remarking, "May I depend upon you?" and he said ''Yes." This was all in the presence and hearing of members of the Committee. My impression is, Sir, that these gentlemen fulfilled their promises, as I was informed by a lady friend of mine who came over that it was known in Motueka on Friday evening, but taken as a joke I may add that the Secretaries have bad no communication from that district until last Wednesday, when they received a telegram to say that fifty were coming. Their coming last Saturday was regretted by none more than yours, &c, R. Smart, Secretary to the C. C. October 18,1880.
