STOKE RIFLES.

The competition for the ahove Company's prizes, which were raised by public subscription, took place at tha Stoke Bapge.on Wednesday last. The weather was anything but favorable, there being a strong south-weet wind blowing, throughout the %hp\'e l , of the firing. The ranges were as follows: — 200, 400, and -500, yards;- -five- shots at' each range. In the evening: the distribution ofc prizes took place at the Public Hall, after which a very pleasant evening ■ was spent by, th,e Volunteers spd their friend*, wboQ a

lengthy programme of dances was gone through, intermixed with gome capital songs; music being supplied by a part of the Stoke String Band, consisting of Messrs A. Bradley, Naylor, and H. Norgate. Refreshments were provided during the evening by Mr and Mrg Hyde in their usual satisfactory manner.
