London, September 8. Consols have further declined, and to day are quoted at 97£. New Zealand securities remain unchanged ac last quotations, viz., Five per cent loan, 104^; Five per cent 1889 loan, 104; Four and a half per cent 1879-1904 loan, 100. New Zealand wheat, cv ship,' remains at 425; Adelaide breadstuffs to-day have declined one shilling, and are now quoted at 46s 6d for wheat, and 39s for flour, ex warehouse. Australian tallow, beef 34s 6d; best mutton, 36s 6d. At the wool sales to-day, 9900 bales were offered, making a total of 174,200 catalogued since the opening. Tho tone of to-day's auction was irregular. The homeward mails via Brindisi, which left Melbourne on July 23, were delivered in London to-day. Arrived- Ship Assell from Lyttelton, left June 10th. September 9. Trickett, the Australian oarsman, has gone to Newcastle to fetch his boat. The betting is nt present unrecorded. Latest advices from the Cape r of Good Hope state lhat the Cape Rifles have entered Basutoland. Tbe total reserve of notes and bullion in the Bank of England amounts to £16,400,000. The squadron is composed of vessels of the navies of all the powers ex- : cept France. Further details have been received about the explosion which took place iv Seabam Colliery, Durham, yesterday. Over 200 miners were in tbe pits at the time of the accident, and 137 have since perished. Of the remainder 67 up to the present have been saved. Laycock and Trickett are now both at Newcastle They rowed on the Tyne yeß-. terday, and were watched by a number of, spectators from the banks of the river. By the critics who were present, their pulling is considered faulty. The steamship City of Richmond, of the Inman line, by wbich Hanlon is a passenger frbm New York, has arrived in a disabled state.
