THE FIGHT NEAR CANDAHAR. FURTHER PARTICULARS. GENERAL ROBERTS' STRATAGEM. Calcutta, September 6. Further intelligence has been received of the engagement between the British troops and Ayoub Khan in Candahar. The details show that General Roberts feigned an attack in full force on Ayoub's entrenchments at Babawahr and Kabil, and succeeded in turning the enemy's position, when they found their retreat cut off: by an overwhelming force in their rear, by which they were completely routed. London, Sept. 4. Arrived — Magellan from Lyttelton, sailed May 5 ; Portland from Lyttelton, sailed May 26 ; Duntroou from Lyttelton, sailed June 15; Loch Finn from Lyttelton, sailed June 16; Adamant from Napier, sailed May 9. September 6. In the House of Lords to-day Earl Granville, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, took occasion to refer to the debates which have taken place in the House of Commons on the subject of the rejection by the Lords of the Irish Registration of Voters Bill. His Lordship in the course of his remarks said he desired to disavoid any symjathywith the tenor of the speeches made by bis colleague, Mr W. E. Foster, Chief Secretary for Ireland, "who had blamed the Lords for persisting in a course calculated to lead to the necessity for a change in the English Constitution.
