July 30th, 1880. 2534 NOT ICE. *" PUBE VOLAtEb EUCALYP;TUS GLOBULUS EXTRACT TTNDER'the Distinguished ' Patronage ol %J his Majesty tbe- King of Italy, at Rome, according to communication received from the Consul-General for Italy, at Melbourne, upon instruction? from the Minister for For* eign Affairs, dated 1 4th March, 1 878. We are informed that dealers in medicine often try to sell the eucalyptus oil found in the trade instead of our Eucal\ ptus Extract. So far as tbe committing of imposition against the public in such a case is concerned, the eonßeqaences would not be serious ; but as ' the qualities of both of the products are in many cases directly opposed to one another, we consider- it our duty to, direct the' public attention to the following facts :~ The eucalyptus oil is recorded to-be 61 value as a medicament in cases of rheumatism of secondary nature, and manifests a drawing, blistering effect upon the s^ in. Any blistering brought on by the application; ot a medicament must increase inflammation, and it is therefore evident tbat in cases of wounds, colds, bronchitis, diphtheria, croup, sprains,> etc.. the curative' power oi our extract on the named diseases being unquestionably prored by former publications in tbis paper. .An application of tbe oil instead of our extract must impair the diseased • The truth of our assertion ip founded upon the fact tbat tbe oil is a resinous product equivalent to comn on turpentine, .its market value being about three shillings one pound weight ; our extract cor.shtsof the evaporating particles of the gum leaves, soothing and btaling in its effects, its price being twenty-four shillings for one pound weight. Our extract, tbe genuine article is only made up in half-ounce and one-cunce vials ; vials bearing on the labels our trade mark and signature.
