SJAt the annual meeting yesterday afternoon of the directors of the New Zealand Hardware Company, a dividend of 8 per cent was declared. Auckland, Thursday. Christchurch, Thursday. •Forty thousand trout have been hatched out in the Acclimatisation Society's ,ponds since. June 15. The weather continues very dry and warm, and north-west winds have already set it. Invercargili*. Thursday. A fire at Crosbie's farm at Wyndham yesterday destroyed two stacks of oats, also a steam threshing machine. They were uninsured. Christchurch, Thursday. During the ps.st six years the rates annually collected in Christchurch have risen from £4,500 to £11,000. The construction of the new breastwork and jetty at Lyttelton commenced to-day. They are to be completed in 12 months. Arrived—Fiji, ship, from Newcastle.
