Aug. 16, steamer Lyttelton, 86, Scott, for Blenheim. 17, cutter Wave, 10, Ricketts, for Marahau. Captain R. A. Edwin reports at 1 p.m..— "Indications glass further rise and weather cold." ' The Lyttelton left for Blenheim afc 730 last nisrht. The Wallace is rxpected frora Wellington to-night, and is announced to eail for tbe West Coast at 7 p.m. to morrow The Murray was unable owing to heavy weather to- leave Greymouth for Westport and Nelsou last night, but hopes to do so tonight. The Wanaka leavps Onehunga to-day, will arrive here to-morrow n'ght, and sail for Picton, Wellington, and Lyttelton at 4 p.m. on Thursday. The Wakatu is expected to arrive here from Wanganui on Thursday morning with a cargo of live stock. She is announced to sail for Wanganui tbe same day. The "Victoria was towed into the harbor by tbe Lifly Barkly this morning, and berthed alongside tbe Commercial Wbarf, where she commenced diechnrging during the day. The Grafton leaves Wellington at 7 o'clock to morrow night, will arrive bpre on Thursday morning, and sail for Westport and GreymouHi the pome day. The barque Rodell Biy arrived at Wellington from Glasgow on Saturday morning. At the inquiry into the cause of the stranding of the -schooner Julius Yogel at Waitara about a fortnight ago, the evidence went to show that the vessel was not supplied with proper gear. The captain had his certifirate returned to him, bufc the Court blamed tbe dwners of the vessel for not keeping her properly equipped for sea. The Tainroa left Lyttelton on Saturday night, Wellington afc noon, and Picton at 8 p.m yesterday, nrriving here at 4 a.m. today. She brings a large batch of cargo— 26o tons — consisting principally of tea, transhipped at Wellington ex Wakatipu from Sydney. The Taiaroa sailed for Picton, .Wellington, and South this afternoon. On the Anchor Line steamship Clrcassia, which entered the Graving Dock, London, recently, for hull cleaning and re-painting, being examined, it was found that a portion of a telegn-ph cable, about 30 fathoms in length and s£in. in circumference, had got tightly wound round ber propeller, so that it required tbe aid of a -niDiilass-tO remove it. The cable bud seven copper wires encased in gufcta percha, over which were coiled two piles of thick galvanised wire. It was in first rats preservation. It is conjectured that tive cable must have been struck by the propeller blades somewhere between Jersey Ci'y and New York, but. the wonder is that no damage was doce to the blades, and that no one on board bad any idea of the u.atter until ifc was discovered in the graving dock.
