The Pott of Wednesday says:— Two I very shap shocks of earthquake were experienced in this city at 3 o'clock this morning. They were preceded by a loud rumbling noise, and an interval of a few seconds' duration elapsed betweeen the shakes. The movement seemed in the nature more, of a 4 vertical than of a' lateral snake, and -'resembled nothing so much as aheavy blow from beneath, like a wave striking a ship. It arpused nearly all- .from, their slumbers, causjed all buildings to sway and creakvery alarmmgly, crockery to rattle, bells to ring,' and suspended articles to swing to and fro, but so far as we can learn no damage was done. The shock was most distinctly felt on board vessels at the wharf and alongside the breastwork. The watchman on the Luna, suddenly awakened by the earthquake, rushed on deck, supposing that she had been run; into by another vessel, so smart was the concussion.
