Aug. 4, steamer Lady Barkly, 30, Walker, for Golden Bay. — steamer Wakatn, 78, Evans, for Wanganui and Wellington, — schooner Waiotahi, 16, Robinson, for Havelock. 5, steamer Hawea, 461, Kennedy, for Picton, Wellington, and Lyttelton. Passengers: Miss Oakley, Messrs Arkell, Wilson, Brown, Harvey, Morgan, Dall, and Stick.
Capt. Edwin reports at 10 64 a,m:— "Bad weather approaching; any direction between north and east and south east Further fall of glass and wind backing. Heavy rain and very high tides within 24 hours." The Lady Barkly sailed for Golden Bay yesterday afternoon. The Murray leaves Grey mouth to-mor-row for Westport and Nelson. The Wallace leaves Greymouth to-morrow for Westport, Karamea, and Nelson. The Lyttelton reached Wellington yesterday afternoon, and leaves for Nelson this evening. The Charles Edward left Westport at 830 p.m. yesterday, will arrive here to-night, aud sail for West Coast ports to-morrow at 10 am. The Graf ton leaves for Wellington on Saturday. The Taiaroa left Wellington at noon today, will arrive here to-morrow morning, and sail at 5 o'clock in the afternoon for Taranaki and Manukan. The Wakatu sailed fov Wanganui and "Wellington at 4.30 p.m. yesterday, and arrived at the former port this morning. The bvig hyren, with a cargo of coal tor Messrs J. H Cock and Co., should arrive from Newcastle in the course of a few days. The Albion will arrive at Wellington tomorrow morning, and proceed up the East Coast to Auckland, thence to Sydney. PasBengera for the latter port will be conveyed to her by the Taiaroa to-morrow. The Hawea arrived from Northern ports early this morning, and after shipping a large quantity of cargo, consisting principally of exhibits for the Melbourne Exhibition, in all 24 tons, she sailed for Picton , Wellington, and Lyttelton by the same at 8 45 a.m. The second steward of the Arawata, who was fined £50 for smuggling tobacco at Wellington last week, made application to the Magistrate on Monday to have the fine reduced to £25, which sum his friends had managed to scrape up for him. The Magistrate said that as the defeudant'had hitherto borne a good character and this was his first offence he would recommend the Government to remit half the fine.
