PUEE VOLATILE EUCALYPTUS GLOBULUS EXTRACT TTNDER the Distinftuished Patronage o1 U bis Majesty the King of Italy, at Rome, according to communication received from the Consul-General for Italy, at Melbourne, upon instruction? from the Minister for Foreign Affairs, dated 14th March, 1878. We are informed that dealers in medicine often try to sell the eucalyptus oil found in the trade instead of our Eueah ptus Extract. Ho 'far as the committing of imposition against the public in such a case is concerned, the consequences would not, be serious; but as the qualities of both of the products are in many cases directly opposed to one another, we consider it our duty to direct the public attention to the following facts : — The eucalyptus oil is recorded to be of value as a medicament in cases ot rheumatism of secondary nature, and manifests a drawing, blistering effect upon the si- in. Any blistering brought on by the application oi a medicament must increase inflammation, and it is therefore evident that in cases of wounds, colds, bronchitis, diphtheria, croup, sprains, etc., the curative power oi our extract on the named dieejsea being unquestionably proved by former publications in this paper. An application of the oil instead of our extract muat impair the diseased * The truth of our assertion is founded upon the fact that the oil is a resinous product equivalent to comn on turpentine, its market value being about three shillings one pound weight ; our extract consists of the evaporating particles of the gum leaves, eoothing and htaling in its effect o, its price being twentj-four shillings for one pound weight. Our extract, the genuine article is only made up in balf-ounce and one-ounce vials ; vials bearing on the labels our trade mark and signature.
