Tb the Editor or the " Evening Mail." Sir — Will you oblige ma by inserting a few lines in answer to the report of Mr White's speech in your paper. In your issue of Wednesday, July 7th, I see my name appears in the report of a meeting held by ratepayers at the Spring Grove schoolroom. Of course, Mr Editor, I cannot reply to what really has taken place at that meeting, not having been present, for which Mr White expressed himself very sorry, because he did not like to call me names behind my back. I may add that, had I been, perhaps be would not have said so much. Any one reading what Mr White said must feel satisfied that he wishes to make himself appear to be a very great man, and to ignore or misrepresent any one else. Let me therefore say, Take the report for what it is worth. It is not to be wondered at that Mr White saw the first notice of a meeting posted up on a tree. As he is in the habit of looking very high, of course it would have been folly to have supposed that he should see it in other places stuck lower down. I am, &c, Christian Dencker. Wakefield, July 9, 1880.
