Letter from Colonial Secretary read, returning by-law having reference to cattle straying on the roads approved by his i xcellency the Governor, Resolved, That tbe by-laws as amended be advertised, and some copies printed and circulated for the information of tbe police and the public. The Governor's proclamation taking land for roads in the Pangatotara and Ngatimoti sub-districts read. Letter from Registrar-General re d, forwarding a, form to be filled up with .certain statistical information required by that officer. The Secretary stated that he had filled up the required information, a duplicate of wbich, was read. Letter from Dr Johansen read, complaining of the bad state of the road in Pangatotara, especially that part through Mr Tucker'a property. The Secretary stated that the part complained of had been private property until the Governor's late proclamation just read, and that immediately on the receipt of that he had invited tenders for forming the road. Letter from Commissioner of Crown I Lands read, having reference to the claim of owners of sections 170 and 171, Supplejack Valley, to a Crown grant of the old road passing through tbeir respective sections, aod with a view to the preparation of the same it was necessary, first, that proof should be furnished that the old road had been legally stopped up, and next, a certificate from the Board that the claimants are entitled to the land. '; Resolved — That the Secretary furnish the information required. Letter from Mr Jamieson read asking the Board to lay off certain roads at Lower-Moutere. Resolved — That the Board declines to lay off aoy roads unless when required in connection with the formation of roads. Letter from Mr W. Ducker read, having reference to the injury his land sustained by a water course having

been stopped when the road , was formed. i The Secretary stated thothehfjd informed Mr Ducker that the matter ! should be, attended to as Boon as he (tbe Secretary) could conveniently do so. Resolved— That with reference to Mr G. Canton's application for assistance to improve the road through bis land, the Board's funds will not at present admit of his application being granted. Resolved — That with reference to Mr Herrick's application re the water draining from the road on hiß property, the Board taking into consideration the benefit his land has derived from the formation of the road, declines tocopnply. with bis request. Letter (rom Mr W. Funnell read asking the Board's permission to connect the two parts of the Company's ditch in | front of his land. The Secretory was instructed to examine the place referred to and report to the Board next meeting , the Board declining to give their sanction to !anything being done that would be likely to bring more water into the ditch. Letter from Mr York read, claiming compensation for additional, fencing occasioned the new Riwaka-Takaka track running .through land occupied by him. The Board declined to entertain Mr York's application; having' in ac!e arrangements with Mrs Cook (the owner of the land") as to compensation for making the track tbiough the land referred tc Resolved, That .the day men throughout the district have notice that their services Vs. permanent workmen will be discontinued from this date, and that the Secretary provide for the day work being done in the same manner, as before day men were appointed. The following motion, That no work be done by day men above £1 in value, amended by the addition of the following words.except in cases of emergency or unleßß otherwise ordered by the Board, was lost on a division.. Ayes — 3, Messrs Fry, Bate* aud fcurrell; Noes —5, Messrs Carter, Beuke, Grooby, Chaytor, and ihe Chairman. The following works were ordered to be done, viz.: — In Motueka the road repaired from Mr C. Parker's corner towards the river. In Lower Moutere, the bridge over the river on Diggens' repaired (on condition that the settlars interested contribute one half the cost). In Upper Moutere, Neudorf road repaired to tbe extent of one day's work with two carts. In Pangatotara, a rough road made soutb of Angle Creek bridge* In Riwaka, the ditch on the trunk road from Stony road, to Cemetery road, cleaned out and deepened, the old culvert at the Poßt Office corner taken up, and a new one put in, and about 2 chains of road gravelled. The upper wharf repaired, and the bank at the lower wharf protected. The Chairman signed an application for the payment of tbe balance of the vote of £700. for the Riwaka-Takaka i new track. ■ The following tenders were accepted, viz :~r Motueka : Clearing logs and . debris from the piers of the Motueka bridge, A. Dodson, £1 10 a _6d. Pangatotara: Contract No. 1, making new road through Mr G. Grooby's land, G. Grooby, £5 10s ; contract No. 2, through Mr Sutherland's land, G. Grooby, £7 10s; contract No. 3, through Mr Tucker's land, C. J. Middelton, £30; contract No. 4, through Mr Tucker's land, Alfred Inwood, £35 16s. Riwaka : Improving road on hill at Brooklyn, Richard 3?ry, £5 15s; deepening ditch from Britannia hotel westward, John McNabb, £3 15s. Warrants were signed for £653 9s sd, £408 5s lid of such amount being for the construction of part of the Riwaka-Takaka new track.
