The first man who advocated the emancipation of the Jews in France was Maximilian Robespierre. Mr A. Guard claims to have discovered another new metal of the platinum group, which he names uralium, from the Ural Mountains, whence the ore is procured. A colossal statue of Mr Gladstone, which Mr Bryant, of the firm of Messrs Bryant and May, has agreed to present to the east end of the metropolis, is to be executed in Sicilian marble. It is proposed to place it on the space in front of Bow Church, The sculptor is Mr Joy, a pupil of Mr Foley. The western part of the Samoa Islands is placed under the direct jurisdiction of the German consul at Aspia. The German consuls of New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, and South Australia have been placed under the supervision of the Consul-General at Sydney. Germany posseeßes a total number of 660 consulates, of which 55 are diplomatic. The Bethnal Green Vestry intend to memorialise the Court of Common Council of London, asking that the historic structure known as Temple Bar might ba erected on some convenient spot in Victoria Park, as it " would be a source of pleasure to the inhabitants of ast London if the old structure were finally placed in their midst.
