The Murray left for Wellington at 7-30 this morning. She may be expected back on Friday morning, and leave for Wanganui at 8 pm. same day. The Hinemoa called at Picton yesterday to land the Failway Commissioners, arriving there at s 'lo p.m. The Graf ton left Westport at noon to-day, "will arrive here to-morrow morning, and sail for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Oamaru by the same tide at 8 a.m. The Hawea left New Plymouth at 8 a.m. to-day, will arrive here to-night, and sail for Picton, Wellington, and Lyttelton at 11 a.m. to-morrow. The next steamer for Melbourne will be the Te Anau, leaving Wellington on Monday. Passengers for her will be conveyed by the Hawea to-morrow. The Wanaka leaves Wellington at noon to-morrow, will arrive here on Friday morning, and sail for Taranaki and Manukau by the same tide at noon. The Taiaroa sailed for Picton, Wellington, and South at 9 o'clock last night, and notwithstanding the bad weather experienced, .she made a good passage to Picton, arriving there at 640 a.m. to day. The Albion sailed for Melbourne via West Coast ports and Newcastle this morning. While in harbor she was most unfortunate in the matter of weather, for it was intended to clean and paint her during her stay here, and for this purpose she was placed on the hard, but tbe heavy rain which fell during the last two days prevented painting operations being carried on, and the steamer has gone to sea in a half-finished state. The Albion will be docked at Melbourne on her arrival there. The Wallace, which has been opposite the Anchor Foundry for the past four months undergoing extensive alterations and repairs, was taken off the stocks and berthed alongside the Albion Wharf at high water last night. No time will be lost in getting her ready for sea. From private advices received in town yesterday, we learn that the barque Whittington, which left Philadelphia on the Bth December last year for England, and has never since been heard of, has been posted at Lloyd's as having been lost with all hands. Both the vessel and the master, Captain Thomas Webster, were well known in Wellington. Captain Webster, from 1872 to 1876, was in the employ of Messrs John Brogden and Sons in this city as storekeeper. He was afterwards connected with the New Zealand Shipping Company for a short time and subsequently again resumed his old profession as a mariner. The Whittington, when she left Philadelphia, was loaded with grain. Another vessel called the Rocklight, having a similar cargo, also left about the same time, and she too, has never been heard of. It is conjured that both vessels were caught in the hurricane in which the training ship Atalanta was lost, and foundered owing to the shifting of the cargo, which in each case was packed in bulk — a practice which repeated fatalities have shown to be highly dangerous. We regret to bear that Captain Webster leaves a wife and family to mourn bis loss. Both vessels belonged to a Liverpool company. — Post.
