Melbourne, Friday. P- The barque British Queen, bound from Charente to Melbourne, put in at the Cape owing to the crew having mutinied and broached the cargo. Saturday. IS?A bottle has been found on the beach at Portland, containing a paper signed by John Webster, and dated February 23, 1880, stating that the ship Knowsley Hall was wrecked on the Crozets, and that all on board perished except three, who are destitute and are subsisting on fish. Doubts are generally expressed as to the authenticity of the message.

A crowded meeting held last night adopted resolutions denouncing certain clauses in the new Licensing Bill, which are calculated to suppress Sunday lectures The Hon. Boric Wilson was in the chair, and David Buchanan, ML.A., Charles Bright, the- freethought lecturer, and the Rev. J. Bowie spoke at the meeting. G. li. Dfbbs, defendant in the great slander case, has been arrested, and his furniture attached for payment of Shepherd's costs. A meeting has been held to initiate a Meat Freezing Company with a capital of £100,000. Brisbane, Saturday. A meeting was held here yesterday for the purpose of starting a Meat Freezing Company, towards which £50,000 have already been subscribed. Adelaide, Friday. Wheat, 4s 2d to 4s 4d, nominal ; flour, £10 5s to £10 7s 6d ; freights to London, 37s 6d to 42s 6d. The race for the Adelaide Cup was run today, and resulted as follows :— First Water 1, Rivalry 2, Glenormiston 3.
