[By Torres Strait Mail.] Cooktown, April 12. The Straits Times, of the 24th inst., states that Admiral Diperee, who commands the French Navy in China and Japan, has received orders for the military occupation of Tonguni by the expedition under the orders of Marquis Villers, Civil Governor of Cochin China. Dollar note currency has been ordered by the Home Government to be established in Singapore and Hong Kong as substitute for the present silver currency. The subsidy of the China-Australia line Netherlands Iniian steamer has been settled satisfactorily. A line was to be opened for Sourbaya via Maccassar, Manilla, Macao, Hong Kong and intervening places, to Amayauds, the service to Australia to be continued as usual to connect with the Chinese service. . A cable v ill shortly be laid to Hong Hong, Manilla, and Baiaira. The cattle disease is steadily increasing at . Butenzore and Krawangi. There is also great mortality- amongst the horses, and
transport troops are seriously retarded thereby.. A special duty of 2 per cent on imports, 1 per cent on exports, and 20 cents per ton on all vessels has been levied at Manilla, to raise funds for new harbor works.
