The Nelson Evening Mail. THURSDAY, APRIL 15, 1880.
With to-day's issue we publish a supplement, containing part of yesterday's proceedings in the alleged perjury case, and a variety of other matter. =''"-.- We have been requested by Mr Kavanagh to announce the following subscriptions, received by him since the publication • of the list of subscribers to the Irish Relief Fund: — Mr J. Jervis, Fox Hill, three guineas ; Mrs Jervis, two guineas ;' Mr Gledhill, per Mr J. Reilly, Takaka, 10s. Subscriptions towards the Relief Fund will be received afc the Colonhfl Bank by the Secretary, Mr Kavanagh. The general meeting of members of the Young Men's Christian Association will be held to-morrow evening, when a full attendance ia requested. The Georgia Minstrels will arrive from Wellington in the IJawea to-morrow, and give their opening performance in the Theat_e Royal iv the evening. The Troupe numbers eight gentlemen and one lady, and we notice the names of several old Nelson favorites among them. Mk. Arthur Sketchley, the world renowned humourist from the Egyptian Hall, London, is announced in our advertising columns to appear for a few nights, at the Masonic Hall, with his old and familiar friend Mrs Brown, when will be revealed some most amusing secrets of family life in London. Mr Sketchley's tour through New Zealand has been a great success, his lectures having been received with unbounded applause. The programme will comprise the most famous of Mrs Brown's adventures, including the world-famed account of " Mrs Brown afc the Play," and her anecdotes of London life and domestic bliss and troubles. No doubt Mr . Sketchley draws a good deal on his imagination in dealing with this parfc of his lecture otherwise the literal y men of the great metropolis must have a very hard time of ifc indeed. .We .vould also remind our readers that Mr Sketchley's newest thing out, entitled " Mrs Brown in New Zealand," giving a description of New Zealand from her landing at the Bluff till her arrival at Christchurch, may be purchased at Mr Stanton's. Mr Sketchley's stay in Nelson is very short. We would advise our friends who wish to enjoy a lecture full of quiet humour, the tone of which is thoroughly unexceptionable, not losq the opportunity afforded them on Tuesday evening (next. We would further state that Mr Gardner, the manager, has arranged with Mr Stanton to sell packets of tickets for front seats, containing six, for one guinea. azBSfZV ?_•_ ■ Jt ■' '■'■ '"'"""--■'-■ - _£__■.' _■-_■' _■_■__ _-__gj&
