TRAGIC OCCURRENCE.
A terrible affair has happened at Woo9ung, a few miles frcm Shanghai. Mr A.C. Owepj the second officer of the steamer Palroclus, and Dr Yate, of the sains vessel, were in a email boat, and the former was amusing himself by shooting at some small birds with a revolver. The doctor waß silling just in front of bim, and Mr Owen held the weapon close to the doctors' head. Jbst as he fired, the doctor turned, apparently, to see what .eff act, the shot might take. The bullet entered the doctor's head. Mr Owen endeavored to extract it by the help of a knife, but failing to do so, , be gpt. into a state of terrible excitement, and before the ssaoirn in the boat could see what what he was about, he fired into bis own forehead. The sailors were about an hour before reaching their vessel (which was about to sail for Europe), when : the captain bad both the . wounded men taken to the hospital at Shanghai. The doctor died tho same evening, and the officer next day. "The jury found that the doctor was Bcoidently killed, tn 1 thit the second officer destroyed himself in a fit of temporary insanity. Dr -Yate was the son of a well-known medical practitioner at the Weat End of London, and the officer, was also the son of a doctor. Tbe deceased haii been great friends.
