The Nelson Evening Mail. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7, 1880.

1$ a remarkably short time this morning the presiding Justices at the Magistrates Court inflicted fines amounting in the aggregate to £3, and the money with the addition of about 150 per cent for coßts was collected on the spot without the slightest difficulty. "We heard it remarked that no doubt the business would be even more prosperous were the Magistrates and Clerk to share the spoil, but one greedy individual Bighed " I wish I could get my money in as easily." Notwithstanding the threatening ap-

a good attendance at the Theatre Royal, the body of the Hall being well filled ; the gal^ lery wan not thrown open. The programme was an attractive one, and was gone through with great spirit, the audience frequently testifying their appreciation by bursts of applause. A number of noisy" little boys in the back seats were so loud in their '• hencores," and so demonstrate in their applause, that they had to be called to order from the stage. The entertainment was brought to a close by the singing of the National Anthem, but we were rather surprised to see a number of the auaience,'most of whom profess to be loyal subjects, walk out of the door before the conclusion of the first Terse of the anthem. The Young Men's Christian Association, in aid of the Building Fund of which the entertainment was given, should be satisfied with the financial result.
