Wk learn on good authority that tbe New Zealand Parliament will meet for the despatch of business on the 25th May next. W. Carter Whijjs arrived here by the Murray yesterday morning, on remand' from Christchurch. Ho wiil be brought up at the 11. M. Court on Wednesday. The entertainment which is to take place in the Theatre Iloyal to-morrow evening in aid of the V.M.C.A. Euildicg Fund premises to bs largely pntronisod, a number of tickets having beeu disposed of. The programme, wli/ch appears in our advertising columns, is a capital one, consisting as id does of readiDgs, recitations, solos, trios choruses, &c. The Wesley an choir have given their services for the occason, and this alone should attract a large audience. The annual general meeting of the Nelson Football Club was held at the Masonic Hotel
on Saturday evening last, when about thirty were present. A. J. Richmond, Esq., was elected President, and C. Y. Fell, Esq., VicePresident. The following gentlemen were elected to act as a Committee for the coming season :— Messrs W. Burnett, H. Burnett, Clouston, Flint, Firth and Walker. Mr J. Firth was elected Captain, and Mr H. F. Hodgson Secretary. The opening game of the season will be played in the Botanical Reserve on Saturday, 1 7th April, when a large muster is expected. A vote of thanks to the Chairman, Mr Burnett, terminated the proceedings. We hear from the Wairau Valley that Mr. Alex. Munro has just lost one of his best saddle horses. The animal was proceeding along a road when it took fright at something and jumped down into a gully bordering on the road and broke its neck. — Marlborough Express.
