0 Capt. Edwin reports : — " Bad weather approaching; any direction between east and north and north west; glass will show further fall; expect high tides; indications of rain." The Croydon Lass arrived at Lyttelton from Waitapu to-day. The-. schooner Poneke sailed for Durville's Island yesterday afternoon. The ketch Sarah and Mary sailed for Waitapu lasfc night. She loads there with timber for Lyttelton. The. Lady Barkly sailed for Golden Bay shortly after 10 o'clock lasfc night. The Waitaki left New Plymouth afc halfpast eigfit this morning, will arrive here tonight, and sail for Picton and Wellington at 11 a.m. to-morrow. The Wanaka leaves Wellington this afternoon, will arrive here to-morrow morning, and sail for Taranaki and Manukau by the same tide at one p.m. The Kennedy arrived at Hokitika to-day. She leaves there for Greymouth to-morrow. The Murray arrived from Wanganui this afternoon. She sails for Wellington direct at 10 o'clock to-night. The Charles Edward leaves Wellington for Nelson to -night. She leaves here for West Coast ports at 4 p.m. to-morrow. The next steamer for Melbourne will be the Ringarooma, which leaves Wellington on Monday. Passengers will be conveyed to her by the Waitaki. The Hinemoa arrived here from Wellington and Lyttelton at 10 o'clock last night, after, a fine run across the Straits. She sailed for Wellingon again by the same tide at midnight. The French steamer Chandernagore arrived at Sydney about a month ago, but no information was given regarding her beyond ..he fact thafc she had called afc New. Ireland for the purpose of founding a settlement j ihere We now learn that fche vessel was fitted - «iufc afc the expense of the Marquis De Roys, in France. It was originally intended thafc the expedition should sail from Havre, but tbe French Government objected. Ultimately eighty - two immigrants embarked from Dutch Territory sailing on September 14th. They took an enormous amount of machiuery , for distillery purposes and a sugar refinery, also stores for 12 months. The person in charge was an American named McLaughlin. The expedition split; up into two parties, and one, seventeen ia number, landed on an island named Ganglin, 24 ; ) miles from New Ireland. While lying at Liki Liki Bay, New Ireland, a succession of storms arose, aDd having lost all her anchors, the ship was 1 forced to come to Sydney. In addition to the Chandernagore, two steamers are coming out, one called the Port Breton, of 1250 tons, which sailed from Barcelona on Jan. 26th, with 750 Spaniards; and a small steamer of about 350 tons, called the Gerrill, which will follow shortly, also from Barcelona.
