Sydney, Thursday. An action for £10,000 damages for slander brought by John Shepherd, M.L.A., against R. R. Dibbs, merchant, for uttering an alleged slander, charging bhepherd with immoral conduct with Mrs J. C. Dibbs, for •whom he was acting as solicitor in a suit in the Divorce Court, has resulted in a verdict for the plaintiff with £200 damages. The Stamps Duties Bill, which was sent the second time to the Legislative Council, has been again rejected by that Chamber on constitutional points In consequence of the Council's rejection of the Stamp Duties Bill Sir Henry Parkes, the Premier, intends to take action to vindicate the privilege of tbe Assembly. Arrived — Wakatipu. Melbourne, Thursday. An enthusiastic meeting of those interested in pastoral affairs was. held to-day for the purpose of starting a company to engage in meat freezing. After some discussion the meeting was adjourned. Melbourne, Friday. It is stated here that Governor Wild has accepted the Governorship of the Straits Settlement, in succession to Sir William Robinson, who has gone to Western Australia. Messrs M'Meckan and Blackwood's steamBhip Claud Hamilton has been purchased by Nipper and Lee, produce merchants of Sydney and Melbourne.
