We understand tbat Mr Oliver, the Minister for Public Works is about to pay a visit to Nelson aud will arrive here in the Stella to-day or to-morrow. It will be seen that a large uumber of our leading tradesmen have decided to close tbeir places of business to-morrow, which will virtually be a public holiday, although it has not been officially notified as such. There is likely to be a very large attendance of the public afc the cavalry tournament, and presentation of prizes to ba held at Richmond. A cricket match between eleven Nelson men and twenty-two of the representatives now here will be played in Victory Square | on Thursday next, when a very "pleasant 1 game is expected. A capital opportunity of attending the | Wanganui races, which will this year be contested by some of the besfc horses in the colony, will be afforded to those desirous of being present by the steamers Kennedy and Wakata, which make special excursion trips, leaving here to-morrow, the former at 6 p.m. and the latter at 7.30 a.m. The Kennedy leaves Wanganui on the return trip on Friday nighfc. We would call the attention of house and land agents to the judgment delivered in the District Court yesterday, and which we publish to-day, in tha case of Sharp and Pickering v. Nicholson. Attention is called to Messrs Loveday and Heyhoe'a new advertisement, which ap • pears on the third page. A report of the Wesleyan Harvest Thanksgiving Festival, held at Brightwater yesterday, reached us too late for publication to-day, but will appear in tomorrow's issue. We are glad to hear that numerous applications have been made for shares in the Anchor S.S. Company (Limited), bufc there are still a good number unapplied for, and we would remind those who purpose taking shares that the list closes on the 20th inst. ■ ' ' **»
