[Pbess Association, ] Wellinoton, Monday. A seuman on board the Go- Ahead named Robert Campbell died suddenly yesterday afternoon during the vessel's passage from Napier here. He was at the wheel when ho was observed to suddenly fall down. All restoratives proved of no avail and he expired in a few minutes. New Plymouth, Monday. The town was lighted with gas for the first time on Saturday night. Christchurch, Monday. E. G. Crisp, the local Borough Council solicitor, has entered a criminal action for libel against the Ashburton. Mail. Severe malignant cases of diptheria have recently broken out in the neighborhood of the Rangiora bush and three deaths have occurred in one family. The single women per ship Westland will be realised from quarantine to-day. Threshing machines are busy throughout the whole of the Ellesmere district One crop of barley yielded 73 bushels to the acre in addition to " seconds," two other crops of the same grain yielded 68 bushels. A crop of oats threshed out 85 bushels and of wheat 60 bushels to the acre. In the Eyreton and Gust district the farmers are Buffering from a scarcity of threshing machines. The Premier bas written to Mr J. L. Wilson, Chairman of the Road Boards conference, stating that tbe reason why £8000, the balance of the sum due to the Canterbury Road Boards has not been paid is because the Waimate County Council claims a larger share thau has hitherto been allotted to it. Auckland, Monday. The Premier will visit the Waikato, and will be present at the ceremony ih commemoration of the opening of navigation on the Upper Thames river. | The rumor that Mr Hamlin, M.H.R., intends to resign is contradicted.
