MAILS CLOSE. Saturday, Feubrary, 21. For Wanganui and Wellington — per s.s. Wakatu, at 3 p.m. ¥or Westport, Greymouth, and Hokitika— • per s.s. Maori, at 2 p.m. For Fiji, Sandwich Islands, the United Kingdom and the Continent of Europe (via San Francisco), Honolulu, America, and the West Indies, China, and Japan— On Saturday, 28th February. The following notice dated February 12 has been published by the Postal authorities : — lt is hereby notified for public information that, concurrently with the establishment of the new* fortnightly mail service between Europe and Australia via Brindisi and Colombo, the Imperial Government has decided to abandon the route via Southampton For the future, therefore, only a mail via Brindisi will be made up for the United Kingdom by the Suez route. The rates of postage on correspondence from New Zealand for the United Kingdom via Brindisi will remain as at present, viz. : — Letters, 8d per % ounce ; books 2d per 2 ounces ; news papers, 2d each 4 ounce paper, and Id for each additional 4 ounces.
