REPORTED NATIVE DISTURBANCES.
Wanganui, Friday. It is reported that Mr Harkley, the Government Surveyor engaged on the Puketotara Block,- has been turned off by a party *of armed natives. The land ' in question is up the Wanganui river. The natives took possession of . the surveyors' camp, and insisted upon the surveyors leaving. Another report has" reached town by the, mail carriervbetween Fordell and Murimutu that shots have been exchanged,. between hostile natives and Murimutu, and that; pahs have beerr formed. Ifc is hot known if anyone is injured. " Ha-wera, Friday. ' The telegraph wires were cut near the Maha stream on the Waimate Plains yesterday ,ettining. The Natives' are engaged, in digging potatoes near the Spot, although it is reported that the potatoes are not yet ripe.
