Melbourne, Tuesday. Mr Berry addressed the Glenelg electors yesterday in a long speech in which he defended the policy and actions of the Government. He sketched the future programme of tbe Ministry and stated tbat they had resolved to abandon the nominee clause, but would retain the plebiscite and the sixih clause in the next Reform Bill. A vote of confidence was carried by a large majority. A woman named Macmahon, while suffering from religious mania, murdered her infant yesterday. Sailed — Te Anau. Adelaide, Tuesday - ) Arrived — Dickan. Stdnet, Wednesday. At the Exhibition, Class "Mild Ales," Joel, of Dunedin, obtained first prize. Brown and Campbell, of Auckland, were highly commended. Class, "Pale Ales," Martin, of Invercargill, first prize. Samples sent by Pascoe, of Wellington, and Wilson, of Dunedin, were highly commended. Class, " Strong Ales," Vincent, of Christchurch, first prize, Speight, of Dunedin, second. Class, " Bottled Stout," Crawford, of Dunedin, first prize, Phoenix Brewery (probably Ehren- . fried _t) second. There were no awards for bottled ales.
