London. February 6. The result of the Liverpool election was the return in the place of Mr John Torr, a Tory, of Mr Whittly, also a Tory, by a maj >rity of 2000 over Lord Ramsay, the Liberal candidate, who, in consequence of agreeing as to the desirableness of a Parliamentary inquiry into the question of Home Rule for Ireland, received the bulk of the Irish votes. Eebruary 7. In the House of Commons, Mr W. A. Redmond, the member for Wexford, moved an amendment to the address in reply, condemning the Government for not having taken steps to alleviate the distress in Ireland by making advances to the tenantry, and demanding from the Chancellor of the Ex chequer that detailed measures be at once liken. In the course of tbe debate, the Hon D. W. Plunkett, the member for Dublin University, denounced the course pursued by Mr Parnell. J The debate was adjourned.
