A labourer saved the engineer of the steamer and one passenger. The engineer had a remarkable escape. He was down in the engine-room at the tim. , and his clothes were much torn in forcing his way out. The vessel was heavily loaded, having maize on deck. Rounding a slight bend in the river the vessel lurched, and a portion of the cargo slipped. The steamer capsized, and filled immediately. Yabsley jumped overboard, and it is believed never sank, as the body was discovered floating on the water im mediately after the oc enrrence. Only Mrs Marshall's body is recovered at present.
