Calcutta, Dec. 20. General Gough arrived at Jagdallak unopposed yesterday. The Ghilzias in large numbers were hovering about, but they were a diaorgam'sed rabble. The other tribes are quiet. Colonel Norman is rapidly advancing. Dec. 21. By tbe latest intelligence from General Roberts on the 18th all was well.' There had been no further fighting, he remaining on the defensive at Sberpan. General Roberts urges General Gough's immediate advance in light order, and says he will meet with no opposition, and when the reinforcements arrive at Cabul affairs can be settled without difficulty. General Gough left to day with 1400 men, and 5 gnns. The roads to Cabul are clear. London, Dec. 19. Best Australian [mutton tallow 39s 6d per CWt. There is a serious famine in Silesia. Dec. 20. At a Conservative meeting at Leeds, Sir Stafford Nortbcote made a speech in which he stated that the policy of the Government was unaffected by Afghan affairs. It continues to be one of defence and not of annexation. ._ Dec. 21. _ Latest new? from the Capo states that the British troops, have taken the stronghold of Secoccini. Two officers were killed and four wounded.
